Your Best Health Starts with a Better Supplement

Vibrant health starts with well-nourished cells. And there’s a reason an estimated eight out of 10 people take supplements: it’s not always easy to eat right. Statistics continue to show that most people need to supplement. Their daily diet simply doesn’t supply even the minimum recommended amounts of many vitamins and minerals. And even if you could design a nutritionally perfect set of meals and snacks, would you eat that same food every day?

Like a nutritional “insurance plan,” a good daily supplement can help fill in the gaps. So, the question becomes, what is a good daily supplement?

Take a trip down the aisles of your local market. The choices for daily supplements can be daunting. You could choose a gummy that’s tasty (and probably laced with sugar) or a one-a-day multi. Either choice might provide enough of a basic set of micronutrients to avoid a deficiency. But you likely won’t get the range or levels of nutrients you need to achieve optimal health.

You see, there’s a difference.

Nutritional authorities often establish the recommended nutrient levels on supplement labels based on what it takes to avoid deficiency. (This is referenced as %DV—Percent of Daily Value—on labels in the United States.) The amounts aren’t at levels research shows can help make a difference in your long-term health.

To illustrate the differences, here’s a couple examples:

  • The Food and Nutrition Board of the Institutes of Medicine set a Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for vitamin D of 600 IU/day or 15 mcg. However, research has shown you often need higher levels to achieve the blood levels needed for good health. In fact, a 2011 in-house study conducted at USANA found that supplementation of up to 5,000 IU was necessary to reach optimal levels (40-60ng/mL). (Labels in the United States now list vitamin D amounts in micrograms. 5000 IU equates to about 125 mcg per day.)
  • The current RDA for vitamin B12 is 2.4 mcg/day. However, some research has shown that up to 500 mcg had positive effects on homocysteine levels in the body—when combined with .5-5 mg of folic acid. Homocysteine is an amino acid that is measured as a marker of heart health.

That’s not all. Another consideration in your supplement selection is the ratio of nutrients used together. It can be tempting to pick and choose your nutrients. But those nutrients might be affected by others. For instance, iron and copper work better together. You need enough of one for the other to be used correctly in the body. Calcium, too, requires adequate levels of magnesium, vitamin K, and vitamin D to maintain healthy bones. The relationships between nutrients can be complex.

A well-designed multivitamin and mineral supplement is made with an understanding of the complexities. It provides you with the right amounts and the right balance of nutrients. And those nutrients are delivered in forms that can be used by the body. That’s where the USANA CellSentials come in.

Nourish Your Cellular Health with Optimal Amounts of Essential Nutrients

Your cells need the right ingredients to maintain health. That includes the nutrients needed to help them (and you) thrive. Support the health and longevity of your cells with an essential foundation of optimal nourishment. Core Minerals and Vita Antioxidant are designed to work together to support whole body health.*

Core Minerals

Core Minerals is a premium blend of highly absorbable minerals, trace minerals, and vitamin C.

Minerals are essential elements for health and well-being. Your body couldn’t function without them. They play a role in all physiological processes and help balance and regulate your body chemistry.*

Magnesium

Core Minerals is an excellent source of magnesium. This essential mineral helps more than 300 enzyme systems work properly. Magnesium is critical for helping the body use calcium and vitamin D so your body can make strong bones. It also supports energy production, as well as nerve, muscle, and cardiovascular function.*

Iodine

Core Minerals contains high-potency iodine. The mineral is crucial for the normal production of thyroid hormones. These hormones help regulate metabolism, growth, reproduction, and protein synthesis. Supplemental iodine is especially important if you are on a vegetarian diet, avoiding seafood, or restricting your iodized-salt intake.*

Selenium

The formula’s high-potency selenium aids your body’s natural ability to renew glutathione, an antioxidant made in your body. Selenium is important in thyroid hormone metabolism and immune function. Studies have also shown its helps maintain prostate health.*

Manganese

Core Minerals is a good source of manganese. Don’t confused this essential mineral with magnesium. Manganese plays different roles. It’s important for protein and glucose metabolism. It supports normal brain function. And, it helps maintain healthy connective tissues, bones, arteries, and other organs.*

Molybdenum

Core Minerals is an excellent source of molybdenum. This trace mineral is a cofactor for a number of enzymes and is necessary for the metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids. It also supports protein metabolism and strong teeth.*

Copper

Core Minerals is rich in copper, which is critical for superoxide dismutase (SOD)—an antioxidant enzyme. It helps form hemoglobin and collagen. So, it also plays a role in connective tissue formation and healthy skin.*

Calcium

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body. You need it for healthy bones, teeth, muscle, and nerve function. Having enough calcium isn’t the problem for most people. It’s properly using what you have. So it’s important to also get enough vitamin K and magnesium. If you don’t eat much dairy or calcium-rich foods, you may want to consider adding MagneCal D to your daily routine to meet your daily needs. *

Zinc

Core Minerals is high in zinc, an antioxidant that is vital to overall health. Zinc is involved in many processes, including metabolism, immune function, vision, and skin health.*

Chromium

The high-potency chromium polynicotinate in Core Minerals is an important component of the Glucose Tolerance Factor (GTF). This helps maintain healthy glucose metabolism already in the normal range.*

Boron

Boron supports the body’s ability to use calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. That makes it necessary for strong bones. It also plays a role in healthy brain function.*

Vanadium

Vanadium helps support healthy serum glucose levels, provided they are already healthy.*

Silicon

Maintaining a good balance of silicon in the body is important for supporting strong bones and connective tissues.*

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine helps support your body’s production of compounds like glutathione—an antioxidant that plays a role in liver health and detoxification.*

Ultra-Trace Minerals

The blend used in Core Minerals contains many naturally occurring ionic trace minerals. They are sourced from inland sea salt, and 99 percent of the sodium is removed. Ionic trace minerals are mineral molecules that have bonded with water so they can be absorbed. They help conduct electrical signals throughout the body.*

Vita Antioxidant

A full range of vitamins is essential to your whole-body well-being. Vita Antioxidant supplies carefully balanced levels of high-quality vitamins and antioxidants, plus the InCelligence Complex.* Some scientific evidence suggests that consumption of antioxidant vitamins may reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer. However, the FDA has determined that this evidence is limited and not conclusive.

Vitamin A

High-potency vitamin A in Vita Antioxidant comes from three sources: retinyl acetate, mixed carotenoids, and beta-carotene. Retinyl acetate is preformed vitamin A for those whose bodies don’t efficiently convert beta carotene to vitamin A. The plant-derived mixed carotenoids include alpha-carotene, gamma-carotene, lycopene, beta-carotene, and more. Beta-carotene is the provitamin form of vitamin A. That means it converts to vitamin A in the body only as needed. It helps maintain a strong heart, immune function, and eye and lung health. The carotenoid antioxidants help maintain skin and eye health by providing oxidative defense against damaging sources of free radicals from the environment.*

B Vitamins

Vita Antioxidant is an excellent source of vitamins B6 and B12, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, biotin, pantothenic acid, and folate. The B vitamins are essential to many aspects of your health. You need them for energy and metabolism; immune function; and healthy hair, skin, and nails.*

Maintaining your cardiovascular health also requires B vitamins. They help maintain already healthy homocysteine levels.* And, as part of a well-balanced diet—that’s low in saturated fat and cholesterol—folate, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 may reduce the risk of vascular disease. The FDA evaluated the above claim and found that while it is known that diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol reduce the risk of heart disease and other vascular diseases, the evidence in support of the above claim is inconclusive.

B vitamins also support normal brain and nerve function. Folate is especially important for women of childbearing age to help support healthy fetal brain and nerve development.*

Inositol, which is sometimes referred to as vitamin B8, is a sugar alcohol that has B-vitamin-like activity to support healthy cellular function and communication.*

Vitamin D

Your daily dose of sunshine! Support your whole-body health with the high-potency vitamin D in Vita Antioxidant. Many people don’t get enough vitamin D, even those in sunny climates. And this important nutrient continues to show benefits for many aspects of health. It supports calcium absorption for healthy bone density. It also supports healthy cell growth as well as muscle, cardiovascular, and immune function. Vita Antioxidant uses vitamin D3. Research suggests it is better at raising levels of vitamin D in the blood.*

Vitamin E and Mixed Tocopherols

Vita Antioxidant is a good source of vitamin E. It also contains 20 mg of mixed D-gamma, D-delta, and D-beta tocopherols in each tablet. The mixed tocopherols, though not technically vitamin E, offer similar functions. Antioxidants, like vitamin E, help defend your cells against the oxidative stress caused by sunlight, pollution, and stress. All of these can prematurely age your skin. When combined with zinc, beta-carotene, and vitamin C, as in the CellSentials, vitamin E also helps maintain long-term eye health.*

Vitamin C

Vita Antioxidant is rich in vitamin C. USANA uses a unique Poly C® vitamin C blend, which provides higher levels of vitamin C in plasma than ascorbic acid alone.*

Vitamin C is essential for making collagen—proteins that provide elasticity to your connective tissues. That’s why vitamin C is helpful in maintaining healthy veins and arteries, muscles, cartilage, tendons, bones, teeth, and skin. It also supports fat and protein metabolism, as well as the healthy production of immune cells.*

Note: You will notice 300 mg of vitamin C on the Core Minerals label. This is because the magnesium and calcium blends are made partly from the ascorbate forms of the nutrients. Ascorbate is a source of vitamin C.

Vitamin K

Vita Antioxidant is high in vitamin K1 and K2 for maximum effectiveness, as both forms have been shown to be beneficial for bone mineral density. This essential nutrient also has shown benefits for blood clotting and vascular health. Vitamin K is absorbed quickly, but also disappears from circulation in about six hours. So, regular dietary intake of vitamin K throughout the day is important for maintaining adequate amounts in the body. *

Lutein

See a healthy future for your eyes with lutein. This yellow-pigmented carotenoid is concentrated in the eye’s macula. It acts as a filter for blue light to aid clear vision. Lutein also helps support healthy skin.*

Lycopene

Get an added boost of heart and skin health support with lycopene. It’s one of the six major carotenoids found in your blood. But, your body can’t make lycopene. It must come from your diet. The red-pigmented nutrient is most often found in red fruits and vegetables. It offers great antioxidant activity and also supports intracellular communication.*

Choline

Choline is usually grouped with the B vitamins, even though it is not technically a vitamin. Regardless of classification, this key nutrient supports cell structure. It aids in the transmission of nerve impulses from the brain throughout the central nervous system. Choline also supports liver function and helps maintain healthy homocysteine levels.*

Coenzyme Q10

To keep you and your cells full of energy, Vita Antioxidant also includes coenzyme q10. This compound is key to producing the energy needed to power all of your cells. It also acts as an antioxidant to protect against damaging oxidative stress generated during the production of cellular energy.*

If you would like to supplement with more coenzyme q10, consider trying USANA® CoQuinone.

Build Cellular Resilience and Longevity with the InCelligence Complex

Healthy dad with son and daughter outdoors

Your lifestyle is unique. Your diet, activity levels, environment, sleep patterns, and stress levels all bring unique challenges to the health and integrity of your cells. You can help your cells adapt to those unique needs. Start with the healthy foundation of nutrition your cells need to function in the CellSentials. Then help build cellular resilience with the InCelligence Complex.*

The InCelligence Complex in Vita Antioxidant is a powerful blend of ingredients that supports a network of cell-signaling pathways. These pathways help cells adapt and respond to whatever life throws at them.*

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is one of the most powerful antioxidants. Because it’s only found in very small amounts in certain foods, ALA is especially good to take in supplement form. It offers several benefits for health, including aiding detoxification. ALA is fat and water soluble, so it offers excellent absorption and works in all tissues of the body.*

Green Tea Extract

Green tea has a long history of use in traditional medicine. It is made from unfermented leaves and is thought to have the highest concentration of polyphenols. The most studied catechin (a type of antioxidant) in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). It is well-known for supporting many aspects of well-being, including heart, liver, and metabolic health. The green tea extract used in the InCelligence Complex is decaffeinated.*

Resveratrol

This key component of red wine is another source of phenolic compounds. Resveratrol has been shown to offer benefits for bones, brain, skin, and the cardiovascular system. It also helps maintain healthy blood glucose levels already in the normal range. The InCelligence Complex includes a premium quality, naturally fermented resveratrol for exceptional purity.*

 Olivol® Olive-Fruit Extract

Olives and olive oil have long been known as one of the secrets of the Mediterranean-style diet. USANA’s Olivol delivers an exceptionally pure, concentrated dose of the phenolic compounds (a type of antioxidants) in olives, including tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol.*

Quercetin

Quercetin is one of the most abundant flavonoids found in fruits and vegetables (grapes, onions). It offers a number of benefits for maintaining health, including powerful antioxidant activity. Quercetin also helps other natural compounds, like resveratrol, boost their effectiveness. The InCelligence Complex includes quercetin dihydrate—a concentrated form.*

Rutin & Hesperidin

Rutin and hesperidin are citrus bioflavonoids. They’re known to complement the activity of quercetin to offer a number of beneficial biological activities.*

Meriva® †Bioavailable Curcumin

Curcumin, which comes from the spice turmeric, has been used in traditional cultures for centuries. Research continues to reveal ways that curcumin supports good health. This includes benefits for joints, blood vessels, and eyes. Curcumin typically is not absorbed well in the body. However, the InCelligence Complex includes a phytosome delivery form in which the curcumin is bound with fat, so it can cross cellular membranes more easily. This novel delivery form has been shown to improve bioavailability nearly 30-fold.*

USANA InCelligence Technology® Joins Cellular Conversations

It’s time for a new approach to product design. InCelligence Technology plays an important role in helping enhance your body’s natural ability to help protect itself from stress and renew youthful, normal cellular function. This patented technology uses select nutrients to not only support but also stimulate specific cellular processes. It triggers these processes by targeting cell signaling pathways—your cells’ network for sending and receiving communications. InCelligence is an innovative way to help your body create vibrant health.*

The InCelligence Complex supports a broad range of pathways and processes for whole-body health. Two of the most important in the CellSentials are:

  • The production of endogenous antioxidants—those created in cells—for powerful protection
  • The activation of mitophagy—a cellular cleanup process—to help renew efficient production of the energy that powers your cells*

Protect Your Cellular Health with Powerful Antioxidant Defense

Illustration of InCelligence antioxidant activity

The CellSentials deliver a number of dietary antioxidants to provide a first layer of defense against cell-damaging free radicals. But your body is made of trillions of cells that need protection. So, dietary antioxidants (also known as exogenous antioxidants) may not be enough.*

What if you could help your cells protect themselves?*

Your cells are naturally equipped with powerful antioxidants. Molecules such as superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione are made in your cells. The nutrients in the InCelligence Complex help proactively stimulate production of these natural protectors.*

It’s simple math. Dietary antioxidant molecules neutralize free radicals in a one-to-one or one-to-two ratio: one dietary antioxidant eliminates one or two free-radical molecule(s). Endogenous antioxidants are typically able to neutralize 100 or more free-radical molecules during their lifespans. By encouraging the production of your natural antioxidants, the InCelligence Complex helps deliver significantly more protection. It is a powerful way to defend against an imbalance of the oxidative stress that can damage your healthy cells.*

Your cells innately know how to protect themselves from damaging free radicals. A key controller of this cellular defense mechanism is the Nrf2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2)-antioxidant response element (ARE) pathway. When a cell senses an oxidant, also known as a free radical, it activates Nrf2. This begins a complex cascade of events that ultimately results in antioxidants being released by the cell. Certain chemicals, including those found in the InCelligence Complex, support stimulation of the Nrf2-ARE pathway to proactively promote antioxidant production.*

Renew Your Health by Supporting Youthful Cellular Function

Your cells produce energy (ATP—adenosine triphosphate) in the mitochondria. This cellular energy production also generates a lot of free radicals. Natural antioxidants in the cell neutralize many of the free radicals. But some mitochondria will still be damaged over time. Damaged mitochondria can work inefficiently, producing less ATP and more damaging free radicals. This causes a self-perpetuating cycle of damage.*

The cell maintains efficiency through a natural response called mitophagy. Think of it like taking out the trash. Or cellular quality control. Initiating mitophagy degrades, removes, or recycles the damaged mitochondria. So, they aren’t causing damaging reactions and the cell stays healthy. However, age or other lifestyle factors may slow this process. The InCelligence Complex helps activate mitophagy to renew efficient energy production and keep cells acting youthful.*

A cell works just like an engine—it works better when it’s clean than when it’s dirty. The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway is a key regulator of cell metabolism, growth, and survival. It controls autophagy—a cleanup process that gathers and breaks down proteins in the cell.

Mitophagy is a type of autophagy specific to mitochondria. When the cell has limited availability of nutrients, as in the case of caloric restriction, mTOR initiates mitophagy. After proteins are degraded, the mitochondria can use those proteins to help fuel the process needed to create ATP—cellular energy.

When nutrients are abundant (i.e., when you’re eating regularly), mTOR reduces autophagy because the cells have plenty of fuel. So, they don’t need to be as efficient. The compounds found in the InCelligence Complex can cause cellular responses that mimic those caused by caloric restriction. This can start the cellular housekeeping process that helps keep your cells efficient, but you don’t have to eat less.*

Frequently Asked Questions About USANA CellSentials

It is simply not possible to condense the nutrient amounts in the CellSentials into fewer tablets. For example, if USANA provided the full CellSentials dosage in one pill, the tablet would be so large it would be like swallowing a golf ball.  If nutrient amounts in the CellSentials were reduced to levels appropriate for a single tablet dose, nutrient amounts would have to mimic Centrum® or One-A-Day®, with minimal antioxidants, strictly RDA levels of vitamins, and very little in the way of minerals. Higher nutrient amounts require space, and unfortunately there are limits to what can be condensed into a single tablet.

USANA’s CellSentials do not contain iron. The widespread availability of iron-fortified foods ensure that most adults receive sufficient iron from their diets (as a common example, just one cup of a popular toasted oat cereal provides 45% of the RDA for iron).

Iron supplementation is best handled separately by those who specifically need it. One such group includes pregnant women, who can get the benefits of the CellSentials plus iron in the Prenatal CellSentials.

During the premarketing evaluation of the CellSentials, and the Sanoviv Medical Institute trial participants were asked to report any unexpected reaction both positive and negative as a consequence of consuming the Cellsentials. The lack of any significant adverse events demonstrates that the new Cellsentials are generally safe and well-tolerated in healthy people. If you have a medical condition or if you are taking prescription medications we strongly suggest that you consult with your healthcare provider and pharmacist to determine if the CellSentials are appropriate for you to take.

Hypercarotenemia is a benign temporary yellowing of the skin caused by consuming large amounts of beta-carotene. The amount necessary to cause this type of condition, regardless of the weight of the individual, far exceeds the amount contained in the daily dose of the CellSentials. The amount of beta-carotene in a daily dose of the Vita Antioxidant is similar to the amount of beta-carotene obtained from one small carrot. Eating one carrot per day won’t cause hypercarotenemia.

If, however, someone is regularly juicing vegetables or consuming large quantities of vegetables high in beta-carotene (in addition to taking the CellSentials), it may be possible to develop hypercarotenemia.
