Fibergy Active
When your gut health is off balance, an upset stomach or irregularity can be hard to ignore. If you want to maintain regularity and support comfortable, dependable digestion, take an active role in your digestive health with Fibergy Active. Dietary fiber keeps the food you eat moving through your digestive system and keeps the bacteria that live in your digestive tract healthy.*
The Role of Fiber in Gut Health
Fibergy Active makes it easy to add more fiber to your diet with a low‑glycemic, vegan‑friendly blend that delivers nine grams of fiber per serving. It helps support regularity and digestive comfort and provides prebiotic fiber to help nourish beneficial gut bacteria—all in one simple daily scoop.*
Nine out of 10 people need to consume more fiber. While the recommended intake for fiber is between 25 and 30 grams daily, the average adult only eats about 16 grams of dietary fiber a day. It’s hard for your digestive system to operate at full strength with only half the fiber it needs every day.
Meet your daily fiber needs with Fibergy Active—a convenient, naturally low-glycemic way to add complex carbs to your diet.*
Fibergy Active is a blend of dietary fibers that are vegan-friendly, naturally sourced, and boasts a hefty nine grams of fiber. Dietary fiber supports your digestive system in key ways:*
- Maintains good digestive health: Support good digestive health by promoting regularity, and feeding beneficial gut bacteria, for supporting smooth, comfortable digestion.*
- Feeds and maintains your gut microbiome: Nourish beneficial gut bacteria with prebiotic fibers that support microbial growth, promote diversity, and fuel fermentation processes, helping maintain a balanced, thriving microbiome for optimal digestive health.*
- Supports good cardiovascular and metabolic health: Dietary fiber slows digestion to help maintain healthy blood glucose levels and supports heart health by binding to LDL cholesterol in the gut, aiding its removal from the body.*
- Actively supports weight management: Maintain a healthy weight by curbing cravings, slowing digestion, and promoting fullness, while providing low calorie fiber that supports appetite control without disrupting your diet.*
Fibergy Active supports comfortable, dependable digestion by keeping food moving through the digestive tract and maintaining a healthy balance of gut bacteria. Building on the need to address widespread fiber insufficiency and offer a convenient way to meet daily intake recommendations, USANA developed Fibergy Active through a deliberate, research‑driven process.*
How Fibergy Active was Created
USANA scientists developed Fibergy Active through a multi‑step, research‑driven process that included evaluating formulas in lab-based gut models, refining the blend with fruit powders, and assessing the final formula in a human study.*
Recognizing the need for a dietary fiber product to support healthy digestion, USANA’s researchers and scientists followed a stepwise development process to achieve this goal.*
Step 1: Researchers began by selecting five potential formulas based on current best research on fibers and the human gut microbiome.*
The five formulas underwent a short-term test in a synthetic gut model, which utilized human gut microbiota to model how the formulas would react in the gut.*
Step 2: The best performing formula was compared against three variations of itself using the same human gut microbiota model.*
Step 3: The results from all eight formulas were compared with a scoring rubric that assessed measurements such as short-chain fatty acid production, bifidobacterial increase, and gas production. The top scoring formula was selected as the base for Fibergy Active.*
Next, whole-food fruit powders were added to the base formula, since other compounds in fruit beyond just the fiber can support good health. The final formula underwent a long-term three-week study in an expanded synthetic gut model.*
Step 4: The formula was tested on humans in a clinical study. This careful research and testing resulted in the Fibergy Active used today to help support the digestion of so many people throughout the world.*
Stepwise Fiber Blend Selection Process
Why These Ingredients were Chosen
Fibergy Active combines carefully selected fibers and real fruit powders to help support regularity, digestive comfort, and a healthy gut environment. The blend provides prebiotic fiber to help nourish beneficial gut bacteria as part of your everyday routine.*
The final formula for Fibergy Active brings together a blend of ingredients designed to sustain your digestive health, support regularity, nourish beneficial gut bacteria, and promote overall digestive comfort.*
- Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are short-chain fructose (sugar) molecules —essentially small bits of soluble fiber that dissolve easily in water and move smoothly through your gut. FOS occur naturally in many plants and are a source of natural sweetness.*
- Sugarcane fiber is an insoluble component of many fiber products. Insoluble fibers add weight and bulk to the food you digest, coaxing it through your digestive tract so you can digest comfortably.*
- Agave inulin is a prebiotic fiber that nourishes beneficial gut bacteria, promotes microbial diversity, supports regularity, and helps produce short‑chain fatty acids that contribute to digestive comfort and nutrient absorption.*
- Apple, blueberry, and raspberry powders are full of phytochemicals and antioxidants that synergize with fiber to optimize your digestion.*
These carefully researched ingredients help support regularity and comfort in your digestive system and contribute to Fibergy Active’s effectiveness in sustaining healthy digestion.*
Clinical Evidence Supporting Fibergy Active
In a human clinical study, Fibergy Active was shown to increase certain gut bacteria and gut‑derived metabolites associated with a healthy microbiome. These findings suggest it may help support normal digestive function when consumed daily.*
USANA partnered with Ragle Human Nutrition Center, University of California, Davis to perform a randomized placebo-controlled, double-blind crossover study. The goal of this study was to test how Fibergy Active performed in humans as opposed to synthetic gut models.*
The clinical study included twenty healthy adults, aged 18-45, with low fiber diets. Each participant received either the fiber blend or a placebo for four weeks, followed by a four-week washout period. Participants then received the other product (either fiber blend or placebo) for another four weeks. This meant that each participant could act as their own control.*
To study the impact to the gut microbiome, researchers collected questionnaire data and fecal samples from participants to measure changes in the microbiome. DNA extracted from the fecal samples was put into sequencing machines, which revealed what sorts of bacteria and other microorganisms were present in the sample. Then, statistical models analyzed the data to help make sense of all the information collected from the samples. This helped researchers understand what happened to the gut microbiome during the study.*
One of the main changes found in the microbiome was an increase in Actinobacteria, particularly Bifidobacterium. These “friendly” microbes are commonly associated with gut health, contributing to microbiome composition and microbial metabolite production, though their effects can vary by individual and context. This statically significant increase only occurred with prebiotic supplementation compared to the placebo.*
In addition to demonstrating the increase in Bifidobacterium levels, the 12g/day prebiotic fiber dose also led to changes in plasma metabolites, particularly indoleproprionate (IPA) (a gut‑microbiota‑derived metabolite that has been associated in prior research with gut and metabolic health). Recent research provides a growing body of evidence for IPA-associated benefits linked to gut health and helping to maintain a healthy inflammatory balance in the body.*
RESULTS: The conclusions of this study showed that a low daily dose (12g) of Fibergy influenced the gut microbiome in specific ways. The fiber blend led to an increase in Bifidobacterium and increased levels of indolepropionate (IPA). These changes show that Fibergy Active can help “feed” certain beneficially associated gut microbes and support some of the natural processes they use.*
