Les oxalates sont des compos\u00e9s chimiques organiques pr\u00e9sents dans certains aliments (comme les \u00e9pinards ou les betteraves) qui peuvent se combiner avec du calcium pour former l\u2019oxalate de calcium, un compos\u00e9 insoluble que l\u2019organisme humain ne peut pas utiliser.<\/p>\n<p>Comme entre 20 et 40 % des calculs r\u00e9naux \u00e0 r\u00e9p\u00e9tition ont \u00e9t\u00e9 associ\u00e9s \u00e0 des niveaux \u00e9lev\u00e9s de calcium dans l\u2019urine, on a tout d\u2019abord pens\u00e9 qu\u2019une forte consommation de calcium pourrait occasionner ou contribuer\u00a0\u00e0 la formation de calculs. Cependant, des \u00e9tudes r\u00e9centes ont montr\u00e9 que limiter l\u2019apport en calcium pourrait au contraire faire augmenter le risque de calculs r\u00e9naux dans certaines conditions.<\/p>\n<p>De nombreuses \u00e9tudes ont examin\u00e9 le r\u00f4le de la nutrition dans la r\u00e9duction des calculs r\u00e9naux. Une \u00e9tude effectu\u00e9e par le Brigham and Women&#8217;s Hospital\u00a0et la Harvard Medical School\u00a0a montr\u00e9 que les recommandations faites ant\u00e9rieurement de limiter la consommation de produits laitiers afin de r\u00e9duire le risque de calculs r\u00e9naux \u00e9taient en fait mal avis\u00e9es. Cette \u00e9tude, men\u00e9e sur plus de 90 000 femmes, a montr\u00e9 que \u00ab\u00a0les femmes ayant l\u2019apport le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 en calcium de source alimentaire avaient le risque le plus faible de calculs r\u00e9naux.\u00a0\u00bb Cette \u00e9tude sugg\u00e8re que le calcium aurait en fait un effet protecteur en se liant aux oxalates dans l\u2019intestin et en emp\u00eachant son absorption sous une forme qui conduit aux calculs r\u00e9naux.<\/p>\n<p>Une autre \u00e9tude de grande envergue sur le calcium et les calculs r\u00e9naux a conclu qu\u2019un apport \u00e9lev\u00e9 en calcium r\u00e9duit le risque de calculs r\u00e9naux symptomatiques. Et ce qui est peut-\u00eatre tout aussi important, cette \u00e9tude a montr\u00e9 que des individus consommant moins de 850 mg de calcium pour jour avaient en fait une plus forte incidence de calculs r\u00e9naux.<\/p>\n<p>En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, l\u2019apport en calcium par l\u2019alimentation et\/ou la suppl\u00e9mentation ne contribue pas \u00e0 une plus grande fr\u00e9quence de calculs r\u00e9naux.
