L\u2019\u00e9tude a \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9e aupr\u00e8s de 96 adolescentes pr\u00e9sentant un faible apport en calcium. Des technologies de pointe ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9es pour mesurer la masse osseuse et d\u00e9terminer le niveau de changement dans l\u2019ensemble de l\u2019organisme, de la colonne lombaire et le contenu min\u00e9ral osseux (CMO) de la hanche durant la p\u00e9riode de suppl\u00e9mentation, et deux ans apr\u00e8s le retrait du suppl\u00e9ment.<\/p>\n<p>Au cours des dix-huit mois, les jeunes filles qui avaient re\u00e7u des suppl\u00e9ments de calcium ont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 des gains beaucoup plus importants en contenu min\u00e9ral osseux (\u00e0 l\u2019exception de la hanche), et la densit\u00e9 min\u00e9rale osseuse \u00e9tait beaucoup plus grande \u00e0 tous les niveaux, par rapport au groupe ayant re\u00e7u un placebo.\u00a0 Apr\u00e8s 18 mois sans suppl\u00e9mentation, les suivis ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que les indicateurs de perte osseuse \u00e9taient beaucoup moindres chez les filles du groupe ayant pris des suppl\u00e9ments que chez les filles du groupe t\u00e9moin.\u00a0 Toutefois, apr\u00e8s 24 mois (ou deux ans sans suppl\u00e9ments) on n\u2019observait plus de diff\u00e9rence entre les deux groupes.<\/p>\n<p>Cette \u00e9tude d\u00e9montre que la suppl\u00e9mentation en calcium favorise effectivement l\u2019accumulation de min\u00e9raux dans les os des adolescentes, cependant ces effets sont de courte dur\u00e9e. L\u2019effet sur le calcium provient probablement d\u2019un m\u00e9canisme qui affaiblit le renouvellement osseux, qui se r\u00e9active lorsque le suppl\u00e9ment est retir\u00e9.
