Cette vitamine essentielle participe aussi \u00e0 la fonction musculaire et squelettique. Son lien avec la performance physique a fait l\u2019objet d\u2019une \u00e9tude portant sur des sujets \u00e2g\u00e9s de plus de 65 ans.<\/p>\n<p>On a proc\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019analyse de la performance physique \u00e0 l\u2019aide des trois tests SPPB (short physical performance battery) et du test de la force de pr\u00e9hension. Les tests SPPB \u00e9valuent la vitesse de marche, le lever \u00e0 partir d\u2019une position assise et l\u2019\u00e9quilibre, en fonction d\u2019exercices de plus en plus complexes.<\/p>\n<p>Le taux de vitamine D de la plupart des participants \u00e9tait faible. Plus de 28\u00a0% des femmes et de 13\u00a0% des hommes souffraient d\u2019une carence en vitamine D. Le taux de vitamine D \u00e9tait insuffisant chez pr\u00e8s des trois quarts des femmes et chez plus de la moiti\u00e9 des hommes.<\/p>\n<p>La performance physique et la force de pr\u00e9hension des sujets ayant un faible taux de vitamine D \u00e9taient sensiblement moins bonnes que celles des participants dont le taux \u00e9tait ad\u00e9quat. Ce r\u00e9sultat demeurait valide m\u00eame en tenant compte d\u2019autres facteurs, notamment la saison et le degr\u00e9 d\u2019activit\u00e9 physique.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9tant donn\u00e9 la pr\u00e9valence \u00e9lev\u00e9e de carence en vitamine D chez les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es, d\u2019autres \u00e9tudes sur l\u2019\u00e9tat de la vitamine D et les fonctions physiques sont n\u00e9cessaires. L\u2019apport recommand\u00e9 actuel de vitamine D se fonde sur la participation de cette vitamine \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 des os.
