En un estudio publicado por la revista <em>Nutrition<\/em>, investigadores examinaron el beneficio potencial de los suplementos de lute\u00edna en la visi\u00f3n de ch\u00f3feres saludables que estaban expuestos a la luz por largos periodos de tiempo.<\/p>\n<p>En la investigaci\u00f3n se trabaj\u00f3 con 120 ch\u00f3feres. Durante un a\u00f1o, el grupo de intervenci\u00f3n recibi\u00f3 20 mg de lute\u00edna diariamente. Se les examin\u00f3 la agudeza visual, las concentraciones s\u00e9ricas de lute\u00edna, el rendimiento visual y la densidad \u00f3ptica del pigmento macular. El bajo nivel de densidad constituye un factor de riesgo para la degeneraci\u00f3n macular asociada a la edad. El alto nivel de densidad no solo reduce el riesgo de sufrir este padecimiento, sino que tambi\u00e9n mejora el rendimiento visual.<\/p>\n<p>Se llevaron a cabo an\u00e1lisis al comienzo del estudio y despu\u00e9s del primer, tercer, sexto y d\u00e9cimo segundo mes. Se investig\u00f3, adem\u00e1s, el consumo diet\u00e9tico de los sujetos as\u00ed como las condiciones de calidad de vida relacionadas con la salud visual.<\/p>\n<p>Los niveles de concentraci\u00f3n s\u00e9rica de lute\u00edna\u00a0 y la densidad \u00f3ptica del pigmento macular central aumentaron considerablemente en el grupo estudiado, mientras que en el grupo placebo no se observaron cambios. El grupo expuesto al suplemento experiment\u00f3 un aumento en la agudeza visual. Se constat\u00f3 adem\u00e1s una considerable mejor\u00eda en la sensibilidad hacia la claridad y el contraste, sobre todo en condiciones de poca luz. Igualmente se obtuvo una mejor puntuaci\u00f3n en la validaci\u00f3n psicom\u00e9trica del Cuestionario del Funcionamiento Visual-25 del <em>National Eye Institute<\/em> (Instituto Nacional del Ojo).<\/p>\n<p>Este estudio concluy\u00f3 que el suplemento de 20 mg por d\u00eda de lute\u00edna aumenta los niveles de densidad \u00f3ptica del pigmento ocular y beneficia el rendimiento visual en condiciones de poca luz como, por ejemplo, cuando se conduce un veh\u00edculo en la noche.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/23360692\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yao Y, Qiu QH, Wu XW, Cai ZY, Xu S, Liang XQ.
