Los sujetos fueron divididos en tres grupos que recibieron un suplemento multivitam\u00ednico\/mineral (MMS), 162 mg de calcio o un placebo al d\u00eda. Tanto al inicio como al final de estudio se midieron indicadores como peso corporal, IMC, circunferencia de la cintura, masa grasa, tejido magro, consumo energ\u00e9tico en reposo, presi\u00f3n arterial, glucosa plasm\u00e1tica en ayunas e insulina s\u00e9rica, colesterol total, colesterol LDL y HDL y triglic\u00e9ridos.<\/p>\n<p>Despu\u00e9s de 26 semanas, el grupo que recibi\u00f3 el multivitam\u00ednico\/mineral demostr\u00f3 niveles m\u00e1s bajos con respecto al peso corporal, IMC, masa grasa, colesterol total y LDL, y un consumo energ\u00e9tico en reposo y colesterol HDL significativamente m\u00e1s altos que los individuos del grupo controlado con placebo. Muchos tambi\u00e9n demostraron haber reducido la circunferencia de su cintura. El grupo que recibi\u00f3 calcio tambi\u00e9n demostr\u00f3 un aumento significativo en sus niveles de colesterol HDL y una disminuci\u00f3n en sus niveles de colesterol LDL en comparaci\u00f3n con el grupo controlado con placebo.<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados sugieren que la suplementaci\u00f3n con multivitaminas\/minerales podr\u00eda ayudar a reducir el peso corporal y la obesidad, adem\u00e1s de mejorar los perfiles de l\u00edpidos s\u00e9ricos en mujeres obesas, posiblemente a trav\u00e9s de un mayor consumo de energ\u00eda y oxidaci\u00f3n de grasas.<\/p>\n<p>Esta correlaci\u00f3n entre niveles inadecuados de nutrientes y obesidad qued\u00f3 a\u00fan m\u00e1s reforzada en un nuevo estudio con ratones. Durante 12 semanas, a los ratones se les dio o bien una dieta est\u00e1ndar o una dieta restringida al 50% de sus requerimientos de micronutrientes.
