Desafortunadamente, es muy com\u00fan que la ingesta inadecuada resulte en insuficiencia o deficiencia de la misma. Las deficiencias de vitamina D ocurren en todos los grupos \u00e9tnicos y en todas las regiones geogr\u00e1ficas, e impactan a todas las edades, de ah\u00ed la gran preocupaci\u00f3n por su importancia para la salud.<\/p>\n<p>En un estudio publicado en el <em>American Journal of Clinical Nutrition<\/em>\u00a0se determinaron y analizaron los niveles sangu\u00edneos de vitamina D en un grupo de residentes del sur de Arizona (estad\u00edsticamente representativo de la poblaci\u00f3n general).<\/p>\n<p>Los participantes se categorizaron en cuatro grupos seg\u00fan las concentraciones s\u00e9ricas de vitamina D: &lt;10.0 ng\/mL, 10.0 a 19.9 ng\/mL, 20.0 a 29.9 ng\/mL y 30.0 ng\/mL y superiores. El nivel de 30 ng\/ml se considera como el m\u00ednimo saludable, en tanto que los niveles \u00f3ptimos son de 50 ng\/ml o m\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>La concentraci\u00f3n promedio de vitamina D para la poblaci\u00f3n total fue de 26 ng\/mL. De 637 participantes, 22.3% presentaba concentraciones &gt;30 ng\/mL; 25.4%, de &lt;20 ng\/mL y 2.0%, de &lt;10 ng\/mL. En negros (55.5%) e hisp\u00e1nicos (37.6%) era mayor la probabilidad de encontrar deficiencias en la concentraci\u00f3n de vitamina D (&lt;20 ng\/mL) que en blancos no hisp\u00e1nicos (22.7%).
