Los adolescentes experimentan cambios importantes en sus hormonas y su cerebro alcanza los hitos del desarrollo a lo largo de la pubertad. Estos cambios contribuyen a la memoria funcional, la flexibilidad mental y el autocontrol de un adolescente.<\/p>\n<p>Es importante que los adolescentes fortifiquen su cerebro durante este periodo de crecimiento y desarrollo. La vitamina D es uno de los nutrientes clave necesarios para ayudar a apoyar y mantener el cerebro en los adolescentes.*<\/p>\n<h2><strong>El cerebro y la vitamina D<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>La vitamina D ayuda a proteger las c\u00e9lulas cerebrales y apoyar el desarrollo de nuevas v\u00edas neuronales, tanto en los ni\u00f1os, adolescentes y adultos por igual. La vitamina D puede incluso actuar como una hormona para ayudar a optimizar la funci\u00f3n cognitiva y la ejecutiva (cerebral).*<\/p>\n<p>Muchos adolescentes obtienen vitamina D a trav\u00e9s de la dieta y la exposici\u00f3n al sol, pero para los adolescentes que viven en latitudes muy al norte, como Noruega o Alaska (donde el sol no siempre brilla), este requerimiento diario de nutrientes a menudo no se puede cumplir. Adem\u00e1s, los adolescentes tienden a tomar malas decisiones alimentarias que les impiden consumir cantidades suficientes de vitamina D.<\/p>\n<p>Un estudio europeo realizado en el 2016 puso a prueba varias hip\u00f3tesis sobre la relaci\u00f3n entre los niveles de vitamina D en los adolescentes y la funci\u00f3n ejecutiva. Tambi\u00e9n se investig\u00f3 el v\u00ednculo entre los niveles de vitamina D y la salud mental (como la sensaci\u00f3n de bienestar, felicidad y satisfacci\u00f3n).*<\/p>\n<p>Los resultados apoyaron las predicciones de los investigadores: la vitamina D apoya la funci\u00f3n ejecutiva y la salud mental en los adolescentes. Los adolescentes optimizaron su desempe\u00f1o en pruebas de soluci\u00f3n de problemas y de la funci\u00f3n ejecutiva cuando tomaron suplementos de vitamina D. Su salud mental tambi\u00e9n se vio robustecida al incrementar sus niveles de vitamina D.*<\/p>\n<p>En cambio, los adolescentes participantes en el estudio que no tomaron suplementos de vitamina D (o que ten\u00edan una deficiencia de vitamina D) no experimentaron los mismos beneficios de apoyo al cerebro.*<\/p>\n<p>Por eso es tan importante que los adolescentes tomen la cantidad requerida de vitamina D. Durante la adolescencia, el cerebro esta en pleno desarrollo. Mantener niveles saludables de vitamina D es solo una forma en que los adolescentes pueden apoyar su funci\u00f3n ejecutiva y su salud mental de manera proactiva.*<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Conozca el estudio<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Este estudio demuestra que el mantenimiento de niveles adecuados de vitamina D puede ser una opci\u00f3n efectiva para que los adolescentes apoyen su cerebro en crecimiento. La suplementaci\u00f3n con esta vitamina esencial puede ser la forma m\u00e1s pr\u00e1ctica de optimizar la ingesta diaria de vitamina D en los adolescentes, especialmente para aquellos que viven en latitudes altas. Y aunque este estudio se realiz\u00f3 en Noruega, los resultados pueden aplicarse a adolescentes de todo el mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Estos son los detalles del estudio y la investigaci\u00f3n que establecen la conexi\u00f3n de la vitamina D y la funci\u00f3n ejecutiva en adolescentes:<\/p>\n<p>En este experimento se examin\u00f3 la relaci\u00f3n entre la suplementaci\u00f3n con vitamina D y el desempe\u00f1o en dos pruebas de funci\u00f3n ejecutiva. Para poder dar cuenta de los efectos sobre la salud mental en el estudio, todos los participantes llenaron una encuesta.<\/p>\n<p>Los sujetos de estudio fueron 52 adolescentes noruegos que participaron en el experimento despu\u00e9s de su horario de clases. Todos los sujetos recibieron un suplemento diario en forma de tableta durante el estudio, pero solo la mitad de las tabletas conten\u00edan vitamina D.<\/p>\n<p>Una extracci\u00f3n de sangre y tres pruebas previas en l\u00ednea ayudaron a los investigadores a establecer una l\u00ednea de base para determinar los niveles de vitamina D y el rendimiento cerebral. A las dos primeras pruebas se les llam\u00f3 la Torre de Londres y la Torre de Hanoi, respectivamente. Existe una conexi\u00f3n muy estrecha entre la salud mental y la vitamina D. Los investigadores quer\u00edan confirmar esta conexi\u00f3n en su estudio.<\/p>\n<p>El desempe\u00f1o en cada una de las dos pruebas de funci\u00f3n ejecutiva y el autoinforme de la salud mental de cada sujeto fueron registrados al comienzo del estudio y despu\u00e9s de 4 a 5 meses. Con la mitad de los participantes tomando el suplemento de vitamina D diariamente, los investigadores ten\u00edan que comprobar los siguientes tres upuestos:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>La suplementaci\u00f3n con vitamina D ser\u00eda de beneficio en ambas pruebas de funci\u00f3n ejecutiva*<\/li>\n<li>La suplementaci\u00f3n con vitamina D durante el invierno mejorar\u00eda la salud mental autopercibida*<\/li>\n<li>La suplementaci\u00f3n con vitamina D podr\u00eda aumentar los niveles generales de vitamina D en los adolescentes*<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Argumentos a favor de la vitamina D <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>En los a\u00f1os transcurridos desde que se public\u00f3 este estudio, m\u00e1s investigaciones han establecido una relaci\u00f3n similar entre el cerebro y la vitamina D.
