Es el primer estudio en que se demuestra que mejorar la calidad de la dieta en un lapso de cuando menos 12 a\u00f1os se relaciona con menor mortalidad total y cardiovascular, adem\u00e1s de que destaca la importancia de los patrones de alimentaci\u00f3n saludable en el largo plazo.<\/p>\n<p>En el estudio se analiz\u00f3 la relaci\u00f3n entre cambios en la calidad de la dieta de cerca de 74,000 adultos en un lapso de 12 a\u00f1os y el riesgo de muerte en los 12 a\u00f1os subsecuentes mediante datos de dos estudios de largo plazo:\u00a0 el Estudio de Salud de las Enfermeras y el Estudio de Seguimiento de Profesionales de la Salud.<\/p>\n<p>La calidad de la dieta se valor\u00f3 mediante tres diferentes m\u00e9todos de calificaci\u00f3n: el \u00cdndice Alterno de Alimentaci\u00f3n Saludable 2010, el \u00cdndice Alterno de la Dieta Mediterr\u00e1nea y el \u00cdndice de Enfoques Dietarios para Detener la Hipertensi\u00f3n (DASH).
