paso para mantener la salud de esa armadura que lo protege del mundo exterior.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>El prop\u00f3sito de su piel<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Su piel constituye una porci\u00f3n grande del sistema integumentario.\u00a0 Este sistema de \u00f3rganos tambi\u00e9n incluye el cabello, las u\u00f1as y las gl\u00e1ndulas que producen sudor y grasa.\u00a0 Las tres principales funciones del sistema integumentario son la protecci\u00f3n, la regulaci\u00f3n y la sensaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>La principal funci\u00f3n de la piel en este sistema es actuar como barrera.\u00a0 Brinda protecci\u00f3n ante varios elementos ambientales como son la temperatura, las bacterias, las sustancias qu\u00edmicas, el sol y m\u00e1s.\u00a0 Sin embargo, los vasos sangu\u00edneos de la piel tambi\u00e9n ayudan a regular su temperatura corporal.\u00a0 Y la piel es en donde el cuerpo utiliza la luz solar para producir vitamina D.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Capas de la piel<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" cada una de las tres capas que la constituyen tiene una funci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<h3><em>Epidermis<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>La epidermis es la capa m\u00e1s superficial de su piel.\u00a0 Est\u00e1 compuesta por millones de c\u00e9lulas unidas por l\u00edpidos.\u00a0 Esto crea una barrera resiliente y regula la cantidad de agua que su cuerpo libera.<\/p>\n<p>La parte m\u00e1s externa de la epidermis (stratum coreneum) est\u00e1 compuesta por capas de c\u00e9lulas planas.\u00a0 Debajo, la capa basal\u2014compuesta por prote\u00ednas organizadas en lo que parecen columnas\u2014produce nuevas c\u00e9lulas de la piel.\u00a0 Eso se debe a que esta capa es la \u00fanica de las cinco partes de la epidermis en la que se produce la mitosis (divisi\u00f3n del n\u00facleo celular).\u00a0 As\u00ed, las c\u00e9lulas de la piel m\u00e1s viejas se desprenden de la capa m\u00e1s superior y las nuevas suben desde la capa basal para ocupar su lugar.<\/p>\n<p>Su epidermis contiene cuatro diferentes tipos de c\u00e9lulas.\u00a0 La mayor\u00eda son queratinocitos, que forman su barrera protectora a prueba de agua.\u00a0 La melanina\u2014o el pigmento de la piel\u2014se produce en los melanocitos de la epidermis.\u00a0 Las c\u00e9lulas de Langerhans y de Merkel lidian con la respuesta inmunitaria y con la sensaci\u00f3n, respectivamente.<\/p>\n<h3><em>Dermis<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>La siguiente capa de la piel es la dermis.\u00a0 Est\u00e1 debajo de la epidermis y es responsable de una variedad de funciones.<\/p>\n<p>Esta capa contiene las ra\u00edces del pelo, las terminaciones nerviosas, los vasos sangu\u00edneos y las gl\u00e1ndulas sudor\u00edparas que ayudan a regular la temperatura corporal y a eliminar los productos de desecho.\u00a0 La dermis tambi\u00e9n contiene gl\u00e1ndulas de grasa (seb\u00e1ceas) que mantienen el aspecto suave y terso de la piel, y tambi\u00e9n ayudan a mantener fuera el agua.<\/p>\n<p>Su dermis tiene dos partes, la parte papilar y la reticular. La dermis papilar contiene las conexiones que ayudan a abastecer sangre y nutrientes a la epidermis.
